Marshall Public Schools Bands are directed by Jeremy S. Root. Jeremy Root has been serving as the Director of Bands for Marshall Public Schools since 2002. He is a 1997 graduate of Marshall High School, and he graduated from MSU with his Bachelor of Music degree in June of 2002, where he studied trumpet with Rich Illman and Mark Thompson. While at MSU, Jeremy served as trumpet soloist and principal trumpet in the Spartan Marching Band. Jeremy has performed as principal trumpet with the MSU Symphony Band, and has also played in the MSU Wind Symphony and the Brass Band of Battle Creek. Jeremy has studied conducting with John T. Madden and Dr. Wes Broadnax (MSU) and Dr. Scott Lubaroff, Director of Bands at the University of Central Missouri. Jeremy is a former choir director at Central Christian Church in Battle Creek. Jeremy is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Music Education from Michigan State University.
Miss Trisha L. Hongisto has served as Assistant Band Director at Marshall Public Schools since 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Music and Elementary Education from Western Michigan University in December 2006. As a university student, Miss Hongisto was a member of the Western Michigan University Women's Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Delores Gauthier, Western Michigan Collegiate Singers and Grand Chorus under the direction of Dr. Joe Miller. Miss Hongisto had the honor of studying music education with Dr. Delores Gauthier and Dr. David Smith, as well as having the privilege to study conducting under Dr. Joe Miller. Miss Hongisto spent many years studying privately with several outstanding musicians including; clarinet with Mrs. Nancy DeKoster; voice with Mrs. Deborah Habing and Professor Grace Mannion; and piano with Dr. Jonathan Ensminger. Miss Hongisto is a member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and has attended the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. During the summer she performs with the Dickinson County Area Band, the Old Comrades Circus Band and the Dickinson County Choir. Miss Hongisto currently resides in Marshall with her two cats and often travels to Upper Peninsula to visit her family in Norway, Michigan.
